This summer we think the gladiator sandal will return again and we couldn't be happier!
The roman gladiator sandal first graced catwalks of Balenciaga and Givenchy back in 2006. After a brief appearance in 2007, they were back for good in 2008 and nowthe gladiator sandal, with slightly different styles may well be a favourite for Summer 2009...
We loved studded gladiators best last summer and these 'Cleo' low heeled, studded leather gladiator sandal in brown. These gladiator sandals are a more dressy option, that you could wear throughout the day then carry on into the evening. For a more elegant heeled gladiator these Moda in Pelle 'Lycra' sandals with brass buckle detail are top of our list for a night out and for a trendy gladiator look, these 'Julianni' black patent platform sandals fit the bill perfectly. They have an adjustable strap design at the front of the sandal so you can adjust them to fit your feet perfectly!
For a daytime gladiator sandal these 'Julius' gladiators come in red patent, black patent and ice patent. We love the black patent as you can wear them with almost any outfit and these gladiators look great with a black patent matching handbag. The ice colour in this sandal looks great with a dark summer tan, or if you're already dark skinned anyway and the red look fab with matching red clothing and a red patent handbag.
This summer 2009 season we have lots more gladiator sandals arriving online with patent crocodile gladiators, rainbow coloured gladiator sandals, kitten heeled coloured patent gladiator sandals and more styles in the classic flat gladiator to come......
These 'Cleopatra' gladiator wedges are a dressy, embellished form of the gladiator trend with aztec style studs and diamate detail on the wedge of the sandal.
We think flat gladiators look great with summer shorts for the daytime, but you have to be careful when wearing them with full clothing, Mischa Barton (see above) on the left is wearing hers with a casual white tee, black skinnies and headscarf, this is a chilled out look for sunny days. Then, on the right, shes wearing jeans, top and a jacket, which, somehow doesn't look how gladiator sandals were suppossed to look! We think she still looks good, but perhaps a flat ballet pump would of suited better?
